An Updated Message to our Clients Regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)
At Shepard Schwartz & Harris LLP, the health and safety of our employees and our clients is of paramount importance.
As mentioned in prior correspondence, we want you to feel comfortable working with our firm during this important and critical time of year.
On March, 18, 2020, the IRS announced federal payment deadlines had been extended to July 15, 2020. Notice 2020-18, IRB 2020-15, announced March 20, 2020, supercedes the March 18th announcement and clarifies that the filing deadline has also been extended to July 15th, 2020, for any individual, trust, estate, partnership, association, company or corporation. Taxpayers do not need to file file Forms 4868 or 7004 to obtain this relief.
Notice 2020-18, IRB 2020-15 also removes the previously announced $1 Million threshold and includes payments of tax on self-employment income, 2019 tax liabilities and 2020 first quarter estimates.
You can find Notice 2020-18, IRB 2020-15 in it's entirety on our website in this link. We also encourage you to visit https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus , which is a special section on the IRS website designated to help taxpayers, businesses and others affected by the coronavirus. This page will be updated as new information is available. A state chart from the AICPA is also posted on our website, which we will update as new information is provided. You can view this chart through this link.
Our physical office location is temporarily closed during Governor Pritzker's Shelter in Place order. For the duration of the order, we will not be able to accommodate in person client meetings at our office and can only receive in person information drop-offs in the lobby of our building by scheduling an appointment between the hours of 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Please send these appointment requests to email@example.com.
However, business is continuing as normal-as-possible with the adjustment of our employees working remotely. Shepard Schwartz & Harris LLP is committed to a flexible work place, and our team members have the tools and technology which allow for effective remote work systems.
Electronic options - We want to remind you that we have existing capabilities for information sharing using electronic options. Even though our office is closed, we are still receiving mail and Fedex or UPS packages and are coordinating scheduled pick ups. However, we urge you to utilize technology whenever possible to provide us with documents. You can send items through either our client portal or Share Safe, both of which are accessible through on our website. In addition, our 1040 clients can request an electronic organizer by sending a request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Additionally, we ask for your understanding and cooperation that you only receive PDF versions, rather than paper copies, of your tax returns for your records during Governor Pritzker's Shelter in Place order.
We again thank you for your patience and trust in Shepard Schwartz & Harris LLP during these unusual circumstances. For the past 85 years, we have been here to support you and your business, and we will continue to do so - especially in a time of crisis. If you have any questions or further concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
