About

Our History

Shepard Schwartz & Harris was founded in 1935 by Irving W. Shepard, a well-known and successful real estate developer, entrepreneur, CPA, attorney and tax expert.  Mr. Shepard helped to shape the Chicago skyline as we see it today, developing the 150 N. Wacker building as well as several shopping centers and apartment buildings throughout Chicago and the Midwest. He also owned interest in a homebuilding company and a screw manufacturing facility. Irv's insights as a real estate developer and entrepreneur established SS&H as a key player in the real estate and construction industry, and that reputation remains today.

Mr. Shepard formed the firm when he recruited Morris Schwartz to join him. Mr. Schwartz quickly became known for his work with manufacturers, complementing the work the firm did in the real estate arena. Morrie began relationships with many key clients that remain today - companies whose continued success is a testament to his expertise and guidance.

Jerome Harris joined the firm in 1947 and was widely known in the real estate community for his work with homebuilders and commercial developers.  Mr. Harris helped many homebuilders get started in the industry, coaching several of the area's largest from start-up to initial public offering. Over his 56-year career with the firm, Mr. Harris built Shepard Schwartz & Harris into what it is today – a highly talented tax, accounting and business advisory firm designed for the needs of privately held companies.

Together, these three leaders forged a business advisory practice built on core values of ingenuity, integrity and professional excellence.
